I would like to tell you a French legend, which appears in many
different versions in North America, South America and China.
Once upon a time, a man named Raymond was looking for a wife. One day he was sitting on the river-bank when a beautiful maiden emerged from the water.Stunned by her beauty, he declared his love for her and asked for her hand in marriage. She agreed to marry him - on one condition - that he wouldn't look for her on Saturdays.Raymond told himself that she was a wondeful woman from Sunday to Friday and had a pleasant temprament, but he was sure something very interesting happened each Saturday and she didn't want him to know about it.Reluctantly, he agreed to her condition. However when Saturday came, Raymond wasn't able to keep his promise. He peeped at her and what did he see? A mermaid. He was absolutely stunned when he saw her tail..she screamed and ran away. That was the last time he ever saw her.
What can we learn from this story?
*Everyone has two sides, represented by the two characters in the story : Raymond and Melusina.
*Raymond is a mortal who lives in everyday consensus reality. It's important for him to be accepted in society nad it's difficult for him to widen his horizons. He feels alone but he chases away his love.
* Melusina is an immortal who is nourished by the world of imagination (the water).
* We feel complete when both sides of ourselves find their expression - the rational and the intuitive. On the one hand "It is with the heart that we can see correctly" (the Little prince). On the other hand, the rational brain often dampers down or even blocks our emotional reactions.
